CRISTAB Healthcare Learning Center’s Basic Nurse Assistant Training Program (BNATP): Empowering Future Healthcare Professionals

The mission of the Basic Nurse Assistant Training Program (BNATP) is to provide relevant technical education and training that supports student goals, creates a skilled workforce, and enhances the economic vitality of our communities. CRISTAB HLC is dedicated to offering the highest-quality vocational training, focusing on placing students in high-growth careers that meet the demands of today's healthcare sector.

Program Overview

Our BNATP prepares students to become certified nurse assistants (CNA) who provide basic patient care and assist with activities of daily living. Students will engage in comprehensive training that includes lectures, campus-based labs, and supervised clinical experiences. Graduates of the program will be well-prepared to work in a variety of healthcare settings, from hospitals and nursing homes to outpatient clinics.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the BNATP, students will be able to:

  • Identify the scope of practice of a nursing assistant and understand their critical role within the healthcare team.
  • Demonstrate how a culture of caring contributes to holistic and compassionate patient care.
  • Re-engage as adult learners, boosting employability in in-demand occupations within the healthcare field.

Occupational Outlook

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wage for nursing assistants was $30,310 in May 2021. Certified Nurse Assistants can expect steady job demand in healthcare as the sector continues to grow. The lowest 10% earned less than $23,880, while the highest 10% earned more than $44,240.

Admission Requirements

To enroll in the BNATP, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be at least 16 years of age.
  2. Complete a criminal background check (in accordance with Health Care Worker Background Check Code) and obtain clearance from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).
  3. Submit proof of a physical exam, immunizations, and vaccinations.
  4. Complete Live Scan fingerprinting at least one week before the class starts.
  5. Attend Compliance Orientation before the first day of class.

Students must also purchase a royal blue uniform, a stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, and other supplies that will be discussed during the Compliance Orientation. Note that a CDC-approved face mask is required for lab and clinical sessions.

Tuition and Fees

The BNATP is a 6-credit hour course. Here’s a breakdown of the costs:

  • Non-refundable Registration Fee: $50
  • Tuition: $1,200
  • Books & Supplies: $195
  • Miscellaneous Expenses: $360 (includes physical, TB test, background check, CPR certification)

Total Program Cost: $1,805

Please note that the program is not eligible for financial aid.

How to Apply

To begin the application process, prospective students must:

  1. Complete an application for admission in-person at the CRISTAB Healthcare Learning Center’s Lower Level.
  2. Complete a reading placement test or provide proof of prior test scores (ACT, SAT, GED, or English 101).
  3. Sign an Authorization and Disclosure form and register for the program.
